Immediately evident to even the most discerning eye, every surface of this house oozes detail, design, style and luxury.
Reflecting grand proportions, with a large frontage on beautiful Santa Paula Avenue. From the sidewalk to the front door, reimagined landscaping sets the tone for this irresistible property, with countless features awaiting inside that separate it from its peers at the high-end of in-the-city living.
Upon entering the residence’s remarkable foyer, one is immediately struck by the home’s spacious and thoughtful design, which accentuates a feeling of openness and grand scale. The current owners worked with the award-winning design firm Sagrera Brazil to reinvent the home for today’s modern lifestyle, while maintaining and carefully preserving its original architectural integrity. The result is a perfect juxtaposition between California-inspired, contemporary living and indoor/outdoor living that abounds with space, warm colors and contemporary yet elegant fixtures.
The property is situated on three levels, with five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms that thoughtfully share a perfectly proportioned combination of public and private spaces. With plenty of room to work from home, host intimate gatherings, enjoy large parties, or simply revel in this unique setting, 100 Santa Paula truly has it all. Natural light floods the home through oversized windows, including the redone large stained glass window leading upstairs, which accentuates a feeling of spaciousness with views to the ocean that can be enjoyed from the back of the house.
An oversized, sunken living room on the main level features original hand blown windows, an oversized fireplace and a custom standing built-in bar. This cozy area provides the perfect setting for any number of uses, ranging from formal entertaining to reading the Sunday New York Times. St. Francis Wood keeps a low profile behind its gateways. Utility lines are buried underground and businesses are banned. This quiet, residential neighborhood of impressively large homes on generously sized lots is built on the'city beautiful plan" promoted by popular architect of the time, Daniel Burnham. Developed in the 1920s for the affluent families of San Francisco, with homes designed by the prominent architects of the day, including Julia Morgan, the showplace homes of St Francis Wood range in style from Normandy farmhouse to Spanish Mission, Georgian, and Tudor. The landscape architects Olmstead Brothers laid out the curving streets along 175 acres below Mt Davidson, and designed sunken gardens, loggias, fountains and pools to be reminiscent of the Italian Renaissance. While businesses are prohibited, Stonestown Mall and the commercial district of West Portal provide convenient access to shopping. St Francis Wood is close to 19th Avenue that connects San Francisco to the airport and Silicon Valley to the south, and Golden Gate Park, the Presidio, and Marin to the north. The M-Ocean View and K-Ingleside street car lines takes residents to City College, San Francisco State, and West Portal, where commuters can connect to downtown destinations. Stern Grove, with its beloved redwoods and summer concert series is nearby. Public schools nearby include San Francisco State University and Lowell High School, one of the best public High schools in the state, and the most sought after in the city.
